Often used for its relaxant properties, valerian has been clinically demonstrated to promote sleep and to combat nervous problems such as anxiety, nervous indigestion, palpitations and spasms. Many people use valerian, or combination products which include valerian, as natural alternatives to pharmaceutical sleeping pills and tranquillizers. There have been no reported side effects to valerian.
