Androgens
Any steroid hormones, such as testosterone, which
increase male characteristics. The androgens are not found exclusively
in males but are also made by the female adrenal glands.
Angelica
Herb
A warming herb described as an aromatic digestive.
It is used as an expectorant and against pleurisy and bronchitis,
arthritic conditions and intestinal flatulence. Angelica is also widely
used as a flavouring in foods.
Availability:
As a medicinal herb, available mainly from medical herbalists.
Anorexia
Lack of appetite. This may be a symptom of zinc
deficiency. Anorexia nervosa ('slimmers' disease') is a complex
psychological condition characterized by a prolonged refusal to eat due
to an abnormal fear of becoming fat and a distorted body image.
Sufferers become severely emaciated. The condition is usually associated
with emotional stress or conflict, and issues involving control.

Antigen
A substance, usually foreign to the body, which
causes the immune system to form antibodies in response to it.
