Cori cycle (also see Energy production)

Also known as the lactic acid cycle, this describes the process whereby glucose is recycled when there is insufficient oxygen for normal glucose metabolism via the Krebs cycle. In the Cori cycle, blood glucose is converted to lactic acid, which is then converted back to glucose or glycogen.

Corticosteroids

Hormones produced by the adrenal glands.

Cortisone

One of the glucocorticoid hormones made by the adrenal glands.

Cranberry

Herb

Cranberry juice (which should be undiluted and unsweetened or used in the form of a commercially prepared extract), is capable of helping to prevent bacteria from adhering to the walls of the bladder and genitourinary tract, thus preventing cystitis.

Cruciferous vegetables

Vegetables belonging to the plant family known as the Cruciferae. See Food families for a list of the members of this family. Cruciferous vegetables contain natural chemicals which reduce cancer risks, for instance sulphurophane in broccoli.
