Some causative factors
- Carnitine deficiency
- Coenzyme Q deficiency
- Vitamin E deficiency.
Coenzyme Q10 deficiency is a factor in numerous diseases including heart failure. Folkers K: Heart failure is a dominant deficiency of coenzyme Q10 and challenges for future clinical research on CoQ10. Clin Investig 71:S51-4, 1993.
Heart failure patients with abnormally low levels of coenzyme Q10 and vitamin E have a reduced survival rate. Jameson S: Statistical data support prediction of death within six months on low levels of coenzyme Q10 and other entities. Clin Investig 71:S137-9, 1993.
Promising nutritional research
Patients with congestive heart failure felt less tired, their general activity tolerance increased and breathing difficulties at rest disappeared when they were given 100 mg per day of coenzyme Q10 supplements. Mortensen SA et al: Long-term coenzyme Q10 therapy: a major advance in the management of resistant myocardial failure. Drugs Exp Clin Res 11(8):581-93, 1985.
Positive results of congestive heart failure treatment with coenzyme Q10 have been above and beyond the clinical status obtained from treatment with traditional principles, and reduces hospitalization and the incidence of serious complications.
Mortensen SA: Perspectives on therapy of cardiovascular diseases with CoQ10. Clin Investig 71:S116-23, 1993.
Similar results reported in: Lampertico M et al: Italian multicenter study on the efficacy and safety of CoQ10 as adjuvant therapy in heart failure. Clin Investig 72:S129-33, 1993.
And in: Morisco C et al: Effect of coenzyme Q10 therapy in patients with congestive heart failure: a long-term multicentre randomized study. Clin Investig 71:S134-6, 1993.
2664 patients from 173 Italian centres given 50-150 mg CoQ10 daily experienced more than 70% improvement in cyanosis, oedema, palpitations and other symptoms. Baggio E et al: Italian multicenter study on the safety and efficacy of coenzyme Q10 as adjunctive therapy in heart failure. Mol Aspects Med 15s:2287-s294, 1994.
